Hair's Worst Enemies

Could you be making these mistakes? Things I did to ruin my hair.

I have always had really thick and long hair, but over the last few years it has been in a “less-than-desirable” condition. There are several factors that have contributed to the damage, sharing HAIR’S WORST ENEMIES here:

Chemical Treatments:

I have coloured my hair twice, both times it was putting highlights through my hair and while it looked great, it caused a lot of breakage. It has been sometime now, cut off the coloured hair. I discovered my first white hair this January and thus far it is just that one random stand. So, it may be a long way before I feel like covering up the gray, but for as long as I go without hair color, I intend not to.

Tight Hairstyles: My go to hairstyles are a top knot bun, high-ponytail and french braid. It is time I gave myself a break and opted for looser styling.

Ignoring Advice: Call it being lazy or just taking the sheer volume of hair for granted. I never gave my hair any love and attention. Ignored my mom’s constant advice for regular oiling and homemade conditioning packs.

Over-washing: Daily washing strips away the natural oils that keep your hair and scalp healthy. With regular workouts, I couldn’t help but shampoo everyday and needless to say it was bad idea.

We are all emotionally attached to our hair. I have had my weight fluctuate over the years and it never bothered me but the hair loss was triggering. It has taken time and effort to break the old habits and form new ones when it comes to haircare. I am also mindful of factors such as age. Naturally, I can’t expect my hair to grow long or withstand environmental factors the way it did when I was in my 20s.

I actually have a haircare routine now and am working on giving my locks the nutrition and gentle handling it deserves. Put this post together so that you can start being mindful of the various factors that can harm your hair.
