Earlier this month, I enjoyed an evening at the Chef's Table at Le Cirque, The Leela Palace in New Delhi. To put it in a nutshell, this place is food heaven.
The restaurant is located on one of the top floors of the luxurious hotel. The decor is elegant and understated with the outside seating offering amazing views of Delhi's skyline.
Reservation staff is polite and were happy to accommodate when my reservation changed from two, to four, to eventually six diners. Undivided attention is clearly one of their USPs. I went with friends who are regulars at Le Cirque and the wait staff remembered the order from their last visit and made dinner recommendations accordingly. My friends called me boring for ordering a cola, so I asked to be surprised with a mocktail and I couldn't be happier with the yummy kiwi and strawberry concoction that I was delivered.
Decor and service aside, this place is all about French and Italian food. Best Gnocchi, best Mushroom Risotto and the best Chocolate Fondant, ever. Considering I spent two weeks eating at some of the best places in Italy this summer that says a lot. Must order the Le Cirque salad for the innovative plating and crunchiest salad leaves. I also tried the Chicken Paillard and it was excellent. My friends particularly appreciated their Tuna Tartare and Foie Gras. If you are looking for an alternative to a chocolate dessert, order the Creme Brulee, it is yum.
The only thing I wasn't wowed by was the Tiramasu, it was layered table side but the taste didn't match the presentation.
A lot of the talk about this legendary restaurant revolves around how expensive it is. Expensive, yes but totally worth the experience. Would I go back there?... can't wait for my next trip to Delhi. :-)
