Last evening I got to enjoy a pre-launch dinner at Mumbai's newest Spanish food restaurant, Arola. Namesake of the celebrated chef Sergi Arola, the restaurant will open this coming Sunday i.e. June 10, 2012. Former musician turned chef, Sergi Arola has two Michelin-stars and successful restaurants in Paris and Barcelona to credit. His formidable reputation lends to very high expectations form the restaurant.
Given that I am allergic to sea food, I am probably not the best person to ask where to eat cause more than half the menu is off limits for me. Still, I highly recommend the "Patata Bravas" (fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce topped with mayonnaise); Cheese Croquettes and the Huevos y Canela (caramelized eggs and cinnamin "Crema Catalana," with mandarin sorbet).
The restaurant also has an exclusive GIN bar. Ask the bartender to create a cocktail specially for based on whatever you like. Also, if Gin is not for you then there is tons of Spanish wine to choose from.
The only downer the restaurant seemed to be in a far corner of the JW Marriott hotel and I was too crazy about the decor. Anyhoo, if you love food, enjoy experimenting with flavors and are looking for something new, Arola is definitely worth a try.
