Lonely Planet ENCOUNTER Series

Lonely Planet Encounter Series

I love to read up on new places but with the wealth of information online sometimes I don't know where to begin. Turning to a book is usually a good idea, however, the sheer size of the Lonely Planet travel guides is so intimidating that I have never once dared to pick them up.

Recommended by a dear friend, the Lonely Planet Encounter Series is turning out to be quite the find. The best thing about these guides is their organization. They provide information on sight-seeing, accommodation, food and SHOPPING sorted by neighbourhoods. The books are filled with tons of pictures, maps and relevant information that won't leave you overwhelmed.

A brief history on the city in the background section, a mini directory and some black pages for notes complete the books. Their size makes them perfect for carrying around while on tour. However, they aren't as popular as the fat books so not so easily available.

After hunting the Landmarks, Om Book stores and local shops I only found one; so I ordered the rest online on Flipkart.com. While the price online was roughly 10% cheaper the books took over a week to arrive (order well in advance). I would also recommend using the payment on delivery option because after several attempts I was unable to pay using the credit card on the website.

Anyhoo, my books are here and I have read them all with two days to spare. Thanks Sonal, this was a great tip :-)
