All in Runway Show

Attended the special evening organized by Lilavati Hospital and Cineyug Entertainment to raise awareness of the "Save & Empower The Girl Child" initiative.

To support the empowerment of the girl child, Bollywood celebrities Madhuri Dixit, Lara Dutta, Preity Zinta, Malaika Arora Khan, Evelyn Sharma, Mandira Bedi, Swara Bhaskar, Lucky Morani and Eesha Koppikar walked the ramp in stunning creations by Manish Malhotra. Apart from the fashion show, another highlight of the evening was a thought-provoking performance by Shaimak Davar's dance company. Excellent effort by everyone involved to bring attention to a very important cause.

I have had a very sheltered upbringing and am very fortunate that my parents are unbiased in their thinking. Growing up, I always believed that these issues only concern uneducated people and didn't quite pay any attention. Once out of my parent's bubble land, I was in for a rude shock and realized that discrimination against girls is a reality everywhere regardless of education or social status. Also, it is not just the extreme cases of female foeticide or rape that count as cruelty. Educated people living in the big cities with all the exposure in the world also ill-treat girls in the name of tradition and culture on a daily basis. At the risk of sounding preachy, all I'll say is that don't turn a blind eye, however big or small the matter, what is wrong is wrong. And, if nothing else spare a thought.

Attended the Gaurav Gupta show this weekend as part of the ongoing Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week in Mumbai. The designer's collection "Lighfall" only reaffirmed that Gaurav Gupta's creations are for the unconventional bride, who isn't looking to conform and is willing to take risks with her styling.

The collection showcased pieces that can be best described as contemporary take on sarees and lehengas with cutting edge drapes and newer silhouettes. Colours remain iridescent in the families of moon grey, ecru, dust gold, Egyptian teal and pop neon.

This doesn't happen very often but I found myself, gushing over the men's designs while seeing the pictures of the Tarun Tahiliani India Bridal Week runway show. While I loved the women's designs as well, it was the menswear that stole the show for me. The picture above says it all; lush fabrics, intricate detailing, rich layering and royal colours.

The ranges showcased were Peacock, Jewel, Art Deco And Avatar, Mirror, Solid, Dhaka and the Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s hallmark masterpieces Chikan.

“We have a deep commitment to 'giving back'. We have been blessed with so much and feel it is not merely our duty, but also a privilege to share ourselves, our creativity and our resources with those less fortunate.” said, Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla.

It was amazing to see star-struck giggly girls walking up to Masaba Gupta at the Vogue Fashion's Night Out in Mumbai last month, asking the designer if she would take a picture with them. That is the kind of popularity that Masaba Gupta enjoys and her show at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 was surely one of the most awaited.

Alia Bhatt walked the runway for the designer in a black, white and pink dress. While I loved the sporty clothes in washed pink, ice-blue and the universal black and white; I wasn't crazy about the slip-on shoes. All in all a really fun, sporty collection with loads of personality that is only going add to Masaba's ever-growing fan base.

The event was attended by Gurinder Chadha, Fardeen & Natasha Khan, Pamela Grover and Rekha Tourani to name a few.

The Gucci Women’s Spring Summer 2014 ready to wear fashion show took place on September 18, 2013 in Milan, Italy. Several prominent personalities attened the event dressed in head to toe Gucci. Designer Niki Mahajan presented her latest couture collection inspired by "a woman who stood her ground when all else failed," at hotel Le Meridien in Delhi this past weekend. This showcase was divided into five segments, Ecru-Birth, Jewel-Adolescence, Vermilion-Wedding, Vintage-Exile, and Noir-Death. The collection in each segment depicted different phase in the life of Begum Hazrat Mahal.

Actor, Neha Dhupia walked the ramp in a royal maroon velevet coat with fine Badla work. Niki Mahajan used Badla and Mukaish work beautifully for her very wearable creations.

Ritu Kumar in association with Reliance Jewels showcased her textile inspired collection at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 on 26th August 2013. The vetran designer's latest collection takes inspiration from the Himalayan region. It features hand woven back strap loomed fabrics, tangkhas, prayer flags as well as kanni and jaamavar motifs.

These rich textiles have been presented in a contemporary fashion by the designer, particularly for her Label Ritu Kumar line. By recreating some of the extinct woven fabrics in prints, the designer pays a tribute to the genius of the master craftsmen from whom the fashion world continues to take inspiration.

Manish Malhotra showcased his collection at the grand finale of Delhi Couture Week, on the 4th of August at 9:30 pm. The designer's creations spelled opulence, grandeur and splendour. There is no way one won't feel like a superstar wearing one of these sensational outfits.

The designer packed some serious star power into his show with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone as the show-stoppers. While Deepika looks stunning in this blue and gold lehenga, I just felt, I have seen Shah Rukh Khan do the three-piece black suit too many times and would have liked to see him wearing something else.

Playing peek-a-boo from underneath the cascading outfits were Christian Louboutin shoes. The show featured designs for both women and men from the French shoe-maker's existing collections, which had been altered specially for Manish Malhotra to compliment his elegant designs. While the men wore a version of the Gareth shoe, the women strut in some seriously high Summerissa sandals.

The Satya Paul show was one I was personally really looking forward to. I was very impressed with Masaba Gupta's debut collection for the designer fashion house and couldn't wait to see what she did next.

Once again, the designer presented her unique point-of-view with prints (going oversized this time). You can tell she had fun with the collection and the pieces are sure to make a statement at any event.

Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor walked the runway for the PC Jeweller show with Satya Paul.
