Thank God for all the "Le Mill" street signs with directions; otherwise it would be quite a task finding this store but believe me its totally worth the trip. Once you get there, don't be fooled by the tiny entrance, Le Mill is 15,000 square feet of understated luxury.
Mumbai's first concept store features home decor, furniture, textiles, carpets, ready-to-wear, accessories and houses a cafe, a flower shop, bookstore as well as an exhibition space. This shopping wonderland is the brainchild of three friends with formidable experience in luxury, fashion and retail, Cecilia Morelli Parikh, Julie Leymarie and Aurelie de Limelette.
Although, I have been to the store many times since it opened little over a year ago, I had the lovely Pauline from Le Mill show me around during my last visit. I have to say things really do sound compelling when described with passion (and a European accent :-) )
The store has a minimalist Industrial feel with grey, white and brown interiors that compliment the intriguing fashion & lifestyle products that exude understated elegance. The decor is sprinkled with playful elements such as rabbits, crows and even lighting in the shape of hats.
Le Mill brings to India several leading International luxury labels; Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's line "The Row," Saloni Lodha, Alexander Wang, 3.1 Philip Lim, Acne, and Isabel Marant to name a few.
I was really drawn to their extensive collection of high quality jewelery that includes Shourouk, Tom Binns, Eddie Borgo, Ioelliani and Adeline. My favourite of the lot is the collection of the Indian born designer Mawai.
A large elevated container dominates the centre of the store; once inside you'll find carved walls and adorable goodies for kids. The section has a mix of educational & play toys, clothing and kids furniture.
Le Mill is also a great destination if you are shopping for your home. Contemporary furniture, barware, cutlery, lighting fixtures, bed linen, glassware, home accessories, ceramics and rugs; they have got it all.
And if all this wasn't enough Le Mill also has their very own in-house label in decor and home-ware, "Le Mill Maison."
Le Mill ensures an expert is always present to assist your so grab a friend and head off on a leisuirely afternoon for a truly unique shopping experience. Oh and I had a sandwich with fresh fruit juice at the cafe and it was yum. :-)
