Trend Alert: The Short Belted Kaftan Dress
The short Kaftan dress is no longer restricted to the beach. Designer labels have for long been known to give the traditional kaftan a contemporary twist and present it in new forms as part of their collections. While the long kaftans have ruled the runways, the shorter version has been the go-to beach dress and coverup.
I am thrilled to report that the shorter Kaftan dresses are having their moment in fashion as chic ocassion-wear. They are a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary clothing. I love this belted style in particular as it adds an element of sophistication to the dress.
This style of dresses is flattering on all body-types. For the most part they are available in a free size. My only request is to never ever wear them with a pair of tights. :-)
I wore this look to the Albus Atrum 2015 opening last week at the NSCI in Mumbai. My cousin sister, Aashna Banaik, was displaying her photographs at the exhibition. Yes, I am standing in front of arresting images that have been shot by her.
I am wearing a kaftan dress from Emilio Pucci that I have paired with Gucci espadrille wedges and a Versace clutch.
