My experience with the Gillette Venus
If you’ve read my earlier post on the Gillette Venus event, you know that I took up the “Subscribe To Smooth” Challenge. I found the discussions at the event to be quite helpful and have been using the Gillette Venus razor for two weeks now.
Before, I begin talking about my experience over the last two weeks, let me give you the back story; a.k.a. my issues with hair removal…
As is the case with most Indian girls, I have been waxing since I was in middle school. I have really sensitive skin, so much so that I can’t wax my upper arms as the skin breaks out into boils. So basically, I just leave the part of my arms above my elbow as it is. Luckily for me I have hardly any hair on my arms, I can go without doing anything for six months and you won’t know the difference. My legs, however, are a different story.
I never really thought to try anything else for hair removal until I was in college. I went aborad to study and of course no one really does waxing over there. I was living in a quad with three other girls, one Korean, one Italin and one American. All of them shaved their arms and legs, but I still tried to stick with waxing given the scary side-effects one tends to associate with shaving. After trying to wax my legs on my own, a few times, I decided I could not inflict any more pain on myself. My roommates had been shaving for years and had super smooth skin, so I also decided to switch. I used a razor with a gel on my legs for the four years in university and nothing “bad" happened to my skin.
Once I returned back to India, I switched back to waxing because, it used to be difficult to find women’s razors and the gel foam easily at that time. Also, so many of my friends were surprised that I had been shaving and exclaimed, I will have thicker hair growth. The Gillette Venus blogger meet addressed all these myths related to shaving (you can read a detail on what the expert panel had to say here) and so I decided to give shaving another try.
I have butter fingers and found that the Gillette Venus grips nicely. The head of the razor moves to go along the contour of your legs and so far I have not cut myself at all. I have used the shaving gel each time and would not recommend dry shaving. My skin continues to feel smooth and no, it has not darkened. Nor has my hair become thicker.
I found shaving to be a quick and convenient method for hair removal. Not to mention pain free! Also, the hair on my thighs grows way slower than then hair on my legs below the knees, so I can just remove the hair from wherever, I want whenever I want. I don’t need to wait till I can get my full-legs waxed.
The only negative for me was that the hair on my legs grows quite fast and I find myself needing to shave every four days. In comparison, I am sorted for three weeks with waxing but obviously it is really annoying to wait another ten days before the hair is long enough for me to wax. As a blogger with constant shoots and events, the waiting seems to have become impossible and rather impractical. Shaving seems to be a much more practical choice.
