Bombay Shirt Company
One of the best things about my job, is getting to discover great shopping haunts in the city. Visited the newly opened Bombay Shirt Company flagship store in Mumbai last week. Founded by Akshay Narvekar, this store offers customers a unique shopping experience, to design their own shirts.
Bombay Shirt Company invites men and women, to make a selection from extensive range of fabrics, buttons, pipings and threads to design their own shirt. Customers can play around with almost every element of the shirt including, cuffs, collars, plackets and pockets.
Currently, there are 130 fabric options housed in the brick and mortar set-up. The mood ranges from casual off-duty, work staples to trendy evening wear. Sourced from select Indian and European mills, you can make your selection from finest Egyptian cotton and luxe linen. The brand does not follow a seasonal format and refreshes their fabrics every couple of weeks to keep things new and exciting.
As exciting as the creative aspect of this whole process is; it also helps to have a garment tailored to fit. I have broad shoulders and off the rack shirts rarely fit me well. There really is no fun in purchasing an odd size and then altering the piece. So I am super happy to have a shirt made to my requirements.
Additionally, while several leading International luxury brands offer a made-to-measure service for men. I am yet to come across a similar service for women. Another big plus for me was the timeline, from the day you order your shirt is expected to be ready in 8-10 days as opposed to several weeks.
You can drop in at the Kala Ghoda store or book a personal shopping appointment in the comfort of your home. Bombay Shirt Company has trained stylists to take you through the step by step process and assist with designing the shirt.
I have opted for a casual blue shirt, shall update the post with the pictures once it is ready!!!
Made-to-Measure was never so easy... Happy Shopping!
