BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014 ~ Suneet Varma

BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014 ~ Suneet Varma

Suneet Varma presented his bridal collection, 'The Princess of Shekhawati' on Day 3 of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2014. The designer's collection was inspired by Shekhawati, one of the oldest hand painted living cities in the world.

The city's 350 year old history lent to the creation of this rich collection. Vibrant reds and fuchsia pinks that are synonymous with Rajasthan (and Bridal favourites), were embellished with mirror work, gold embroidery and tone-on-tone aari work.

On my wish list are the two-piece sarees with contrasting fabrics and the kalidar kurtas with the thick gold borders. Also, loved the ivory and cobalt blue combination finished with dull gold work. The hand-made accessories in beaten metallic golds were fit for a princess. The exaggerated earrings and hair pins deserve a special mention.

Kangana Ranaut walked the ramp for a designer in a risqué outfit, complete with a dramatic head-piece. Drenched in history but modern in presentation; a fantastic display by one of my favourite designers.

BMW Design is the beginning of an emotional experience. Over many decades, a variety of design elements have formed the unique DNA of BMW as defined by its distinctive proportions, surfaces and details. Bridal fashion is all about aesthetics, perfection, precision and craftsmanship, which is what BMW embodies. BMW has enjoyed a number of successful collaborations with artists and designers over the years, but this is our first partnership with the Bridal Fashion Week, arguably one of India’s most significant bridal fashion shows. We wish Suneet Varma the very best for this season’s bridal collection.
